The Problem
Like most good things, PuckPrep was born out of a problem looking for a solution. After years of roasting coffee as a hobby for friends and family, we found ourselves keeping track of our inventory and roasts through a variety of disorganized and imperfect means. We loved the data-oriented aspect of tracking weight in, weight out, first crack timing, etc. While we were fascinated by coffee roasting and the data behind it, logging our roasts and keeping track of our inventory was too cumbersome — eventually being relegated to a running note on our phones. We knew there had to be a better way…
Our Solution
As the saying goes, “necessity is the mother of invention”. The idea for PuckPrep was quite simple at the time — to make something that would help us keep track of our inventory and roasts, as well as provide a means to share details about our roasts with the people we were roasting for (friends and family mostly). Eventually, we realized that the idea was bigger than just us and that if we were having this problem, others probably were too — so PuckPrep was born. We've since added a public roast page, support for recording cuppings, importing your own bean data, and more. We're just getting started and have a lot more planned for the future — we're excited to have you along for the ride!

Equip coffee roasters with the technology they need to roast coffee people love.
However, simple does not always mean easy. We understand the magnitude of the mission we have set out for ourselves, but we are excited to take on the challenge. We believe that by providing roasters with the tools they need to roast better coffee, we can help improve the coffee experience for everyone involved.

We believe integrity is the foundation of our company and our success and we condemn deceit and dishonesty. Acknowledging all the valuable work done by several others in the coffee industry — including farmers, their employees, exporters, and roasters — we feel a moral obligation to help maximize their contributions as we work together towards a great final product. We aim to highlight, not minimize, all the work done by every individual at each stage of the coffee's journey from crop to cup.
Humility
Truth over ego.
We don't know everything about coffee, and we don't pretend to. We continually learn about the craft from our own experiences, the industry, and our users. In a complex and evolving field composed of equal parts art and science, there is no room for ego. We approach every conversation, every request, and every suggestion with an open mind — pride without arrogance, humility over hubris.

Good enough isn't.
Everyone in the coffee industry is focused on excellence, from farmers to processors to distributors to importers to roasters to baristas — we are no exception. We strive to provide an experience that isn't merely “good enough” but exceeds our standards and customers' expectations.
